About "Sensei"
Dan Marshall is a media production professional and an accomplished academic leader with over three decades of professional experience. For more than a decade, he has guided media production programs in higher education, mentoring both students and fellow professionals at institutions like SAE and The Art Institute of Atlanta.. This dedication to education has resulted in a track record of student success, with many of his former students going on to become platinum-selling engineers and chart-topping producers as well as video and film professionals.
This deep educational expertise is grounded in a 30-year career as an audio engineer and sound designer, during which he contributed to platinum and gold-certified projects for major artists and provided post-production services for nationally syndicated programs. As the owner of LevelHeads Recording Studio for 14 years, he managed all aspects of a professional production business. He continues to provide professional post-production services through Levelheads.com.
Dan holds BA degrees in Music and Media Production from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Education from Argosy University.
About the Dojo
Sensei Hollywood's Dojo* is envisioned as a "movie studio for kids": integrated classes offering fun, unique hands-on opportunities for kids to learn the technical, collaborative, and creative skills involved in moviemaking and media arts. Kids work as a team to write the scripts, draw the storyboards, learn to use the equipment and put it all together.
We started at the LEAD homeschool co-op in 2018, as kids leaned over my shoulder to watch as I edited video on my laptop, while waiting for my kid to get out of class. At some point, it was suggested that I should just teach a class already...
We started with MovieMaking 101, that turned into more classes, and one thing led to another... We've gone on to offer classes in moviemaking, scriptwriting, video editing, animation, and more.
Beyond that, it's my hope that the lessons learned along the way about the power of hard work, creativity, and collaboration will remain with our students as they advance through life...
